For Radiologic Technologists ·
What you'll accomplish
By the end of this guide, you'll have a Claude Project set up with your most-used reference materials — protocol summaries, technique charts, ACR guidelines — so you can ask plain-language questions and get instant, accurate answers instead of hunting through binders or PDFs.
What you'll need
What you should see: Claude's main chat interface with a text input bar at the bottom.
What you should see: A new Project workspace opens with an empty chat and a panel on the right side for project settings and files.
Troubleshooting: If you don't see Projects in the sidebar, make sure you're logged in. Projects is available on all Claude plans as of 2025.
Click "Edit project instructions" (or the settings gear icon in the Project panel). Type a description that tells Claude what this project is for:
You are a reference assistant for a radiologic technologist. You have access to the protocol documents, technique charts, and guidelines uploaded to this project. Answer questions accurately using the uploaded documents. If the answer isn't in the documents, say so clearly — don't guess on clinical information. Use plain language and be brief.
Click Save.
Supported formats: PDF, Word (.docx), plain text (.txt)
What you should see: The document appears in the Project's "Files" list with a checkmark.
Troubleshooting: If a document is too large to upload on the free plan, open it, copy the key sections (protocol tables, parameter charts), paste into a plain .txt file, and upload that instead.
In the chat area, type a question you'd actually look up:
"What's the standard CT chest protocol for a patient who can't hold their breath?"
What you should see: Claude answers based on your uploaded protocol document, citing the specific values or instructions from it. If the answer isn't in your documents, Claude will tell you clearly rather than guessing.
Come back to the Project any time to add more reference materials:
The more you add, the more powerful your reference library becomes.
Protocol lookup:
What's the recommended technique for a [modality] [body part] exam on a [patient size: small/average/large] patient, based on the protocols I've uploaded?
Policy summary:
Summarize our contrast reaction policy. What are the steps for a mild reaction vs. a severe reaction?
CE study:
I'm studying [topic] for my CE module. Based on any relevant uploaded materials, quiz me with 5 questions and explain the answers.
Cross-training:
I'm cross-training to [MRI/CT/fluoroscopy] next week. Based on the uploaded protocols, what are the top 3 things I need to do differently than [my current modality]?
Equipment question:
The scanner is showing error code [X]. Based on the uploaded service reference, what does this mean and what should I try first?
